Use the takeoff editor

Learn the QuoCAD drawing workspace: source images, scale calibration, and every striping tool from stalls to text.

The takeoff editor is where you place and measure striping work. Use it to trace repaint work, draft layout changes, add markings, measure lines and curbs, and prepare quantities for quotes and reports.

How the editor is laid out

  • Top bar: zoom, scale calibration, and document/job controls.
  • Left toolbar: drawing tool categories.
  • Canvas: your plan, photo, or satellite image with the striping markup on top.
  • Right inspector: properties and editing controls for the selected object.
  • Bottom context bar: tool-specific settings and quick actions.
  • Status bar: scale, selection, and editor state or warnings.

Core workflow

  1. Add a source image or map capture.
  2. Calibrate scale.
  3. Choose a tool from the left toolbar.
  4. Draw the work on the canvas.
  5. Use the inspector and bottom context bar to refine dimensions, labels, colors, and options.
  6. Review totals in the Breakdown and Proposal tabs.
  7. Save or export when ready.

The tools

Select and Pan: move around the canvas, select existing items, edit objects, and inspect properties.

Stalls: draw parking stalls and stall rows. Presets cover straight, angled, double, and curved rows, with live drag previews. Verify stall width, length, aisle clearance, and local requirements.

ADA / accessibility markings: place accessibility-related stalls and symbols.

Markings, arrows, and symbols: common pavement markings such as arrows, stop bars, no-parking markings, numbering, reserved text, and other stencil-style items.

Zones: mark areas such as hatched no-parking zones, crosswalks, drive lanes, traffic aisles, and other layout regions.

Curbs: trace curb painting work. Verify line length, paint color, and pricing assumptions.

Lines: straight striping, lane lines, center lines, borders, and other linear work.

Text: add labels, stall numbers, notes, or customer-facing annotations.

Measure: check distances. Measurement values depend on correct scale calibration.

Scale calibration

Scale is the single most important setting in the editor. If totals look wrong, check the image scale first.

Editor troubleshooting

  • Measurements look too large or too small: recalibrate scale.
  • Drawing feels slow: close extra tabs, refresh, and use Chrome or Edge on desktop.
  • Image does not align: check the image scale, crop, and layer alignment.
  • Map or HD capture unavailable: check your plan usage and billing.
  • Tool controls are hard to find: check the bottom context bar and the right inspector.
